Donate Your Expired Coupons and Help Military Families

EDIT: Effective February 22nd, Tammy is no longer accepting coupons.

When I first started couponing, I kept hearing that you could donate your expired coupons to military families serving overseas. Military families serving overseas can use expired coupons up to 6 months after the expiration date at their local commissary’s. I looked into it and it seemed like a really complicated process that I just could not figure out. A few weeks ago I attended a blogging business meeting on Skype and *met* Tammy of Army Household6.

She writes a fantastic blog all about her life as a military wife. As I was checking out her blog, I noticed that she has simplified this whole expired coupon donation process. You can simply mail your expired coupons to her and she will get them where they need to go. Here are all of the details:

Gather up your expired coupons (no more than 3 months past the expiration date). Your coupons need to be clipped  already (you will want to do so to cut down on shipping costs anyhow). They can only accept manufacturer’s coupons from the newspaper or magazines. They can not accept internet printables or store coupons. Send them to Tammy at this address:

What a great way to be able to support our troops! Please take a little of your time and help a military family out instead of throwing your coupons in the trash.

http://www.couponstotroops.com has some great information on sending coupons overseas. They even have a project directory where you can look to see if there’s a coupon group in your area to donate coupons to but they suggest that if you’re going to mail and spend money on postage anyways, you should send directly overseas since the postage is the same amount to get them overseas as it is to mail to a group in the US. otherwise postage is being paid twice on the same coupons.

I’ve got a bunch ready to mail out right now!!

Thanks to the PP (Lindsey) for posting this info. I looked into sending my coupons overseas a few weeks ago, and now with the link you’ve posted, there is a few drop off areas in my state, but not near me. However the overseas address is listed, simple instructions for mailing and I will finally not feel bad for all those expired q’s I didn’t use!

17

I’m sending some Monday! I’ve been looking for an address for a very long time.

18

Thanks so much for the information. I hate wasting these coupons and now I have a use for them.

This is such a great thing to be a part of. It also gives me something to do while I am waiting for my baby to be born. I am starting to like clipping coupons.

20

This is such an awesome idea! Do they need all types of manufacturer’s coupons? (i.e. dairy, cereal, personal items, etc) I’m clipping all the coupons from the paper right now, making a stack of the ones I use for my family and a separate stack with all the others for the military. I’m going to check with HR tomorrow at work to see if I can get my entire company involved in this. What a simple way to give back to the brave members of our military!

21

Marena,

Yes they need all types! The only thing they can’t use is store specific coupons, but they can use most any manufacturer’s coupon. Thanks for your participation!

22

I thought that I read that they can use internet printed coupons, but here it states they can’t. Do you know if they can?

23

You know, when I first wrote this post they said no internet printables, but since then I have seen others say that they can accept them, so possibly they have recently changed the rules.

24

i sent mine off to this address but did not know if they were received and did not want to overwhelm so have not been sending; if i should please send a private email to scouter68@yahoo.com and let me know where and i will send them and not keep throwing them away

25

My Frugal Adventures just sent me here….thanks so much for the info! I’ve got a good pile to send to Tammy!

Hi-

I have been sending coupons overseas for about 10 years. I am in need of new contact names and addresses. Where do I find new people to help?

Thanks
