Frugal Tip: SparkPeople

Vu Manh Thang - I Am Superman

I am turning the big 3-0 in June and my goal is to lose those last 15 pounds before then. My original goal was those last 10 pounds, but you know, going on a cruise in the middle of the Holiday season is not exactly great for the waist line. I need to lose about 1 pound a week until the big day.
I am a pretty healthy eater, but then the evening comes and I want to eat about 15 cookies. And I can eat 15 and still want more. I LOVE cookies. And I have really fallen off of the exercise band wagon. So I need a little help to get myself restarted.

We all know that we need to count our calories and fat intake when we are trying to lose weight. But that isn’t really a lot of fun, and it can be a lot of work. A few weeks ago on Twitter, Andrea at Mommy Snacks mentioned this website called SparkPeople that helps you track your eating and exercise. That is exactly what I needed. Accountability. If I am going to have to write down that I ate 15 cookies, it suddenly becomes a little less appealing.

There are two ways to keep track of your eating. You can manually enter everything you eat, which is what I do. Or they provide you with a meal plan that you follow and then mark off the foods as you eat them.

Click on the picture above and you can see what I have had to eat today. You can also see that I have had 3 glasses of water so far today. That is a friendly little reminder for me to make sure I get my full 8 glasses of water.

SparkPeople has a variety of services including online communities that help you to connect with others in your area, or with your same goals, emails to help you stay on track and encourage you and a lot of articles with helpful information on every topic you could think of. I haven’t used most of the other features yet, but writing down what I eat is helping me a lot.

The best thing about SparkPeople is all of these services are totally FREE! No membership fees or dues. Click here to register and get started right away.

I will keep you all posted on my progress (talk about accountability!!). I know from experience that these last pounds are the hardest to lose, but I am looking forward to looking my best at 30!

Wow, what a nice website. This will hopefully be what I need when I get done with this pregnancy, and I just turned 30, so I need to do something! Thanks for the input.
