Erica,

I think the thing that would be most helpful for you is to set up a cash envelope system. It has really helped my husband and I meet in the middle on budgeting. You can read my post about my experience with the the envelope system here:

Hello..I stumbled across your blog through a friends page. This Mint.com seems really effective, unfortunatley for the most part my husband and I use cash. He prefers it, and we have only been married a year so I was willing to try it out since its the way he likes things done. But we havent learned how to budget! Its easy to see how much money we have since its always on hand, but not realizing what we are spending way too much on or what we really need to spend our money on and how much we really CAN spend when we go to the grocery store, etc. AND, every month fluctuates...so sometimes we are flat broke at the end of the month and some months we do real good and have plenty left over to flow into the next month. But you can see how this is a confusing way to live. But I cant use mint.com since I dont have bank accounts to pull from. Do you have any ideas or know of any websites I could go to in order to look at our spending habits for the past few months. We keep most receipts, and maybe I will just need to go in line by line to look at everything and categorize it all. It may have to do but I thought you might also have some advice to offer. Thank you!

I've been using Mint a few months now and I LOVE it. I've posted a few times about it at www.pennywisefamily.blogspot.com. We couldn't be happier with our Mint experience. I can't believe it's free. Kristine, this is a great review.

Another thing I love about Mint is now you can show assets--equity in cars, homes, concert posters...whatever, so for those of us who walked away with some college debt, we don't feel like our budget is a giant black hole. It's good to see forward progress all the time.

My family too has been taking advantage of Mint.com's excellent, free service. No more do we need to log in to multiple bank accounts, loan accounts and investment accounts to see where we are financially. Keeping up with our budgets has never been easier. We highly recommend it to everyone.
